About Dave Seay

Dave Seay has been working with horses for more than 30 years. Whether working with horses at an event, on the road or at a private facility, Dave can be found helping horses and humans overcome difficulties, fears and frustrations.

Born in Atlanta, Georgia in 1950, Dave started working with horses in his late teens. His career started with successful western pleasure showing. He won numerous ribbons, buckles, saddles and trailers. One day he realized that he had these prizes to show for his hard work, but the horses standing in the field had nothing to show for their efforts. It was during this period that Dave’s interaction with horses had a life altering turn. Instead of working against the horse’s natural way of going, he used the horse’s natural behavior to enhance its relationship with the human. In a manner of speaking it is like crawling into the horse’s brain and understanding how it interprets its surroundings.

Most clinicians recognize other horsemen as their mentors or teachers; Dave is self-taught and acknowledges all the horses he has worked throughout his life as his educators. Dave explains, “Every horse has something to share that we can learn from.” Having worked over 9,000 horses, Dave has trained all breeds of horses for all types of disciplines. Wild mustangs have played a vital role in Dave’s methods and experience. “They have no inhibitions and tell you how it is. They are honest with no preconceived notions.” It is from these animals that a horseperson can learn the most. “ In order to get into the horse’s mind, you must understand his feet!” For a horse, the feet are the difference between life and death in the wild.

Today Dave works with many dedicated horse individuals, whether they are top hunter/jumper and dressage riders or active trail riders. In each case, riders want to develop better communication with their mounts. Through Dave’s methods, horses in the show ring improve their flatwork and perform better jumps. On the trail, the horses are confident and fun to ride.
